What to Expect

Here are the answers to a few frequently asked questions about our church.

  • We are part of the Baptist tradition, affiliated with the Rochester Genesee Region of the American Baptist Churches USA.

"Baptist" is a bit of a loaded term these days, claimed by churches across the ideological spectrum. For us, being Baptist means that we affirm the freedom of local congregations to interpret the faith for themselves without outside interference, we resist the imposition of creeds on individual believers, we take the Bible seriously and strive to apply it to our lives in a Christ-centered way, we affirm women in ministry, we believe in the separation of church and state while advocating for religious liberty for all, we welcome all people, and we strive to be ambassadors of God's love and grace in our community.

  • We gather in the fellowship hall every Sunday around 9:30am for coffee, snacks, and to catch up with each other. Worship begins in the sanctuary at 10am and usually lasts about an hour. We sing some songs, read a Bible passage or two, pray, and listen to a sermon. Our teachings tend to be very dynamic, exploring the context of the Bible and its relevance for our time.

We have a potluck after church on the first Sunday of every month and a free community meal (The Gathering Table) on the third Sunday. There are also occasional classes, discussions, and service opportunities – so plan to stick around after worship if you’re looking to get connected!

  • Come as you are! Some folks wear a suit and tie, others come in a t-shirt and jeans. Our sanctuary isn't air conditioned and it's an older building, so we recommend dressing light in the summer and bringing an extra layer or two when it gets chilly outside.

  • Street parking is usually at a premium on Sunday mornings. While there is a small parking lot at the front of the church, your best bet is the municipal parking lot at the intersection of Erie and Queen Streets, just behind the church. We are also walking distance from the SUNY Brockport campus. Get directions.

  • We offer nursery care for children ages 0-5 on Sunday mornings for the duration of the worship service. Elementary kids stay in the service on the first Sunday of every month (“Family Sunday”) but we offer kids programming all other weeks during the school year. If you prefer to keep the kiddos with you in the sanctuary, that's fine too!

If you'd like your kids to participate in our Sunday morning ministries, please stop by the Connection Center to sign them in prior to the service. All children must be escorted to their classroom and picked up after the service by the parent or guardian who checked them in.

  • Yes! We welcome everyone to the communion table — long time member or first time visitor, regardless of your faith background (or lack thereof), whether you believe the bread and the cup are purely symbolic or something more. There is no cover charge and no bouncers checking religious IDs at our table. All are welcome to partake.

  • Yes! We practice baptism by immersion (i.e., dunking) but we do NOT require folks who have already been baptized (whether by immersion, sprinkling, or other means) to get re-baptized. You’ll need to complete our membership class before you can be baptized. To start a conversation about baptism, contact the church.

  • Absolutely. And while a little spill can't hurt, a lid is always a good idea.

  • Yes! Our church is welcoming and affirming, which is a fancy way to say that LGBTQ+ folks are fully included here. Whether you're looking to visit, become a member, serve, or lead — your sexual orientation and gender identity will not be a hindrance. To read our full inclusion statement, click here.

  • Absolutely! Our congregation includes college students who are only here when school is in session and snowbirds who fly south for the winter. You don't have to be a permanent resident to connect, serve, and belong here.

  • Of course! Pastor Dan loves food and is always eager to meet new people. Contact us and we'll set something up!
